Who is Charter Savings Bank?

Charter Savings Bank is a UK savings specialist offering a range of tax-free and regular savings products, including Cash ISAs, fixed-rate ISAs and easy-access savings accounts. It focuses on straightforward, online account management with competitive interest rates for savers and is protected by the UK Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) up to applicable limits for eligible deposits.

Pros and cons

  • Competitive variable interest rate on easy access ISA balances, with interest paid annually and accrued daily
  • No penalty or notice required to withdraw money—you can access your savings when you need them
  • Very low minimum balance requirement (£1), so you can start saving with almost any amount
  • Interest rate is variable and can fall at any time in response to market or base-rate changes
  • Not a flexible ISA—withdrawing money and replacing it later in the same tax year will count towards your ISA allowance
  • Some customer feedback highlights slower account handling and transfers compared with other providers, and occasional limitations with online account updates or service responsiveness

What is a Cash ISA?

A Cash ISA is a savings account where all interest you earn is completely tax-free. Every UK resident aged 18 or over gets an annual ISA allowance at the start of each tax year. For the 2025/26 tax year (ending 5 April 2026), the allowance is £20,000, and from April 2027 it will reduce to £12,000. Cash ISAs come in different types, including easy-access accounts and fixed-term accounts.

What is an easy-access Cash ISA?

An easy-access Cash ISA allows you to withdraw your money whenever you need it, without paying any penalties. The interest rate is variable, so it can rise or fall over time. Some easy-access ISAs are also flexible, meaning withdrawn money can be replaced without affecting your allowance.

Who is Charter Savings Bank Easy Access Cash ISA good for?

The Charter Savings Bank Easy Access Cash ISA is a strong choice for savers who want tax-free interest and the freedom to withdraw funds without notice or penalty. It’s especially suitable for those who prioritise accessible savings and competitive rates rather than locking money away, and for savers who are comfortable with managing accounts online. However, it may appeal less to people wanting flexible withdrawal/replacement rules or those who value very responsive customer support.

First class customer service

I was transferring a Charter matured isa into a Charter easy access isa and did something wrong, rang them, got through more or less straightaway to a very kind and patient gentleman who I could understand and he talked me through how to undo what I had done. I can’t thank this man enough and it was refreshing to speak to a proper human instead of an automated service that doesn’t help in the end. First class customer service!

I recently submitted an ISA transfer request to transfer my ISA account to Charter from another provider. Charter acknowledged my request and quickly acted upon it. The funds were successfully transferred in only a matter of days. I am pleased with the service I received.

Easy and efficient opening of new account

Easy, straight forward, online opening of 1 year, fixed rate ISA, coupled with a comparative excellent rate of interest. I had a problem when first attempting to access the new account ( entirely my fault !), but this was quickly resolved by a helpful and friendly member of staff.

It all seemed much slower to change ISA providers than it should have done. It is not helpful to request a client does something within a short time span when the actions by the ISA providers are so slow.
